Anti Corrosive Pigments
Anti-corrosive pigments are pigments in paints and coatings that work by building physical barriers, creating passive oxide layers on the metal, or chemically neutralizing corrosive agents. Common types of anti-corrosive pigments include compounds of zinc like zinc phosphate, zinc chromate; phosphates; and special minerals. These mineral-based anti-corrosion pigments provide protection over long periods under extreme conditions of marine or industrial environments. The mechanism of corrosion protection involves inhibitor release, modification of the metal surface, and barrier protection blocking moisture and oxygen. All the above mechanisms are valuable in ensuring the durability of expensive structures like aircraft, infrastructure, and piping systems.
